Participation in Vickery Surname Project is an opportunity to uncover information not provided in the paper records, which will help further family history research and goals. As the project progresses, the results for the various family trees will provide information about the evolution of the surname. The Y-DNA Results Chart displays groups with matching results labeled by most distant paternal ancestor. These groups are numbered on the chart, as well.

The Y-DNA test reports genetic results from one's direct paternal line, which is inherited from one's father and his father, and going back many generations in time on the same paternal line. One must be male to take this test. If you believe there is a Vicary, Vickery, or other variant-spelling in your direct paternal line, we encourage you to participate in Vickery Surname Project. If you are female, please find a Vickery paternal-line male in your family tree to participate and represent your tree on the Vickery Y-DNA Results Chart. All persons with Vickery ancestry anywhere in their lineage are welcome to join on their autosomal DNA results (FTDNA Family Finder test).

We encourage males to order a Y-DNA test for 67, 111, or 700 markers. If you order fewer markers, you may upgrade later, though this costs a little more. The Big Y 700 is the gold standard Y-DNA test for surname studies and is recommended for all males with Vickery surname (and other spellings) who test with the project.
