DNA testing has tentatively shown that the Tantalo and Ferrari families of Villavallelonga are descended from a common male ancestor. The genetic association between the two families may represent the adoption of different surnames by the related families during the era of surname adoption in Italy. Additional testing by members from these families could confirm their relatedness.

Furthermore, E-V22+ is most likely the ancestral haplogroup of Blessed Don Gaetano Tantalo. His canonization within the Roman Catholic Church is in process as the result of the holiness of his life and his courageous efforts during WWII. Don Gaetano has been honored as a Righteous Gentile at Israel's Holocaust memorial Yad Vashem in Jerusalem, as well as at the Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C.
