WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THIS PROJECT
I. GOALS OF THE WALKER SURNAME DNA PROJECT
Our goal is to establish family groups who share a common paternal ancestor, and provide an estimate of the number of generations back this ancestor lived. Walker Lineages are grouped by Genealogy on our Pedigree page: (Results). Each group contains knowledge about relationships among Walker individuals which reaches beyond what we knew from "traditional" genealogy. Along the way, we have proven numerous researchers' family traditions and matched some families together. We have discovered that some Walker families who lived in the same locations and appeared to migrate together, were not necessarily related to each other. In other instances, we have made connections between families that could not be found through traditional genealogy research. Occasionally north meets south, when we discover a family line where one or more individuals migrated from north to south, another example of finding a relationship missing in our paper research. We seek to provide an additional tool to help in overcoming roadblocks in genealogical research. By matching a family group, you can then focus your research on the correct Walker family lineage and eliminate Walker lines that are not a match to you. We request that each participant provide a skeletal pedigree of his Walker family that we can post to the web page and thus share the information with other researchers who may be researching the same family. We strongly believe that the results of the project should be shared with all researchers, in order to further the genealogical research on all Walker lineages. You can request to join the Walker DNA Project by using the link at the top of this page.
DNA collection kits, which involve a painless swabbing of the inside of the cheek, will be sent to participants directly from the lab. Your payment is remitted to the lab with the completed kit.
