About us
The project is administered by Alasdair Macdonald who has been Scottish representative for Family Tree DNA since 2009. He is not a paid employee of Family Tree DNA. There is no fee for being part of this research project.
The project has a focus on Scottish DNA and aims to place participant test results in context through the following objectives:
(a) Identify the Y-chromosome signature of each test taker and group it where possible according the FTDNA Y-chromosome Haplotree https://www.familytreedna.com/public/y-dna-haplotree/A
(b) Through (a), help test-takers establish the likeliest location where their earliest ancestors would have lived.
(c) Through (a), help test-takers establish how they are connected to other test takers using both genealogical and DNA evidence.
(d) Through (a), investigate the origin of each lineage, its distribution and association with surnames.
