2 Dec 2018:

Two exciting developments occurred late last month:

• A Zachary descendant with Thomas H. Zachary and Sophie in their family tree joined the project.  DNA test confirm that Thomas and Sophie are NOT the parents of William Zachary (b. 1750 d. 1829 Surry County, NC) that married Jemima Johnson.  Thomas H. Zachary is confirmed part of Lineage 2 (see results page) as researched by Terri Coleman and Beverly Layton in the book "The Zachary Family Westward From 1680-2000".  Please update your family trees with this new information.

• Three DNA volunteers from the Thackeray/Thackrey/Thackwray DNA project joined after DNA tests confirmed a match to Lineage 2.  This shows a name change took place, but we do not know if the name started as Thackeray and went to Zachary or Zachary to Thackeray.  Further DNA upgrades, paper trail research and more DNA volunteers are necessary to resolve the name origin.

World Families hosting site has retired.

Effective 23 May 2018, the World Families site that hosted the Zachary DNA project is no longer be accessible with the exception of the Forum, which will be read only.

The site owners feel they will be unable to handle any fallout from the European General Data Protection Regulation.

We are grateful to them as they helped the project get started and wish them all the best!!

Match (Kit # 760084) to the William and Jemima Zachary line is now posted!! For more information, see DNA Results page.

General Findings:

• Volunteer results show the John and Katie (Blackstone) Zachary line is related to the John/Bartholemew Zachary line.  Previous paper-trail evidence could not connect the two.  See Patriarch page and DNA results page for further details.

• Four lineages are not related to each other within a minimum of 20 generations.  

• Three families mysteries were solved!  These family origins are expanded and enhanced.  

• Two new mysteries and additions to the Zachary family. New matches on the Dedman and Westmoreland surnames to the William and Jemima Zachary line appeared this year (2017). Research ongoing to find the common male ancestor. This is in addition to the West surname match from 2011.

• Confirmed at least two surname changes.
