The goal of this surname project is to provide a central source for DNA data for those with the Beardsley / Beardslee surname (or other alternative spellings).
We are able to use the DNA information to refine family lineages, and assist those who are attempting to discover their family lines.
New male Beardsley members are encouraged to test the Family Finder, which now will provide a "baseline" Y SNP which will confirm descent from a Beardsley ancestor. If you have done the Family Finder test, please consider uploading your data to the GEDMatch website: http://gedmatch.com/

To confirm your "terminal" SNP (and possibly discover newer ones within our Beardsley family!) you may wish to consider testing Big Y (please consult with the project administrators first).
At this time the Y-STR tests are suggested or recommended as the essential information needed for the project's goals are most cost effectively discovered by testing Family Finder and then, if warranted, the Big Y (which includes the STR data).
