About us
The proper name for Quakers is The Religious Society of Friends (RSoF). The project was formed in hopes of gathering as many direct lineages (maternal and paternal) (autosomal lineages are also acceptable) of original RSoF members in Great Britain (and its former colonies) as possible in one place. Do you have many ancestors who belonged to the RSoFs, and a love of genetic genealogy, but struggle with browsing many surname projects to find the haplogroup and other information for each and every RSoF ancestor? Do some of your RSoF ancestors' surnames not yet even have a surname project? If so, this is the place for you.
For the purposes of this project, Great Britain includes England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, the Channel Islands, and the Isle of Man. It also includes early British Colonies, such as Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, North Carolina, and Canadian provinces.
The British Quaker DNA Project is intended to supplement, not replace, existing geographical and surname projects related to Great Britain. Members of surname and other geographical projects are welcome to join our project.
