The project aims to take your genealogical research back another step. It allows you to explore your early ancestry, to discover which Buchanan (or other) lineages are the closest to yours. If you have two families that might (or might not) be related, the Y-DNA test will give you a very good indication. The project also serves as a forum by which the Y-DNA testees and their genealogical colleagues can make contact with each other.

For the descendants of the chiefly line the advances in Next Generation Sequencing and discovery of SNPs offers a means to map out the family tree of the Buchanan clan in order to tie branches in with the cadet lines. The exciting progress that has been made is on-going as more and more results come in and as we track down and test more pedigreed individuals
