Starting in 2022, at the Luss Highland Games, six clans came together for the Battle of Clans. Our next gathering will be in April of 2024 at the San Antonio Highland Games. This DNA Project was started to help confirm these clan families are all related by marriage. Clan surnames that we include in our project vary. Our common goal is to preserve our Colquhoun (Calhoun, Cahoone, Colhoun, Coen, Cowen…), McCarter (MacArthur, McCarty …) and Hunter, Graham, Buchanan, MacFarlane and McEwen. Alexander Colhoun; James (Patrick) and Hugh Calhoun who are now proven to NOT be sons of Rev. Alex.; William Campbell Colhoun and his father, Robert Colquhoun b 1622 of Luss, Scotland; Moses McCarter of Abbeville District, South Carolina and many other connections between all 7 clans. We are not professional genetic genealogists. We are a group of experienced researchers looking for where all our Calhoun lines meet using YDNA, autosomal DNA triangulations, and historical documents. We wish to improve the understanding of our roots to the best of our ability for future generations. No matter what Colquhoun branch anyone in this group comes from whether it is E-M35 of the Clan Chiefs line, or R-M269 or R-M198 Colquhoun lines, we are all part of Clan Colquhoun. No one is turned away. Clan means "family". Family is not always genetically related. It doesn't matter if you're a Colquhoun, Colhoun, Calhoun, Cahoone, Cahoon, Cahoon, McCarter, McCarty, McArthur, MacArthur, Hunter, Ingram, Buchanan, Graham, MacFarlane, or MacGreagor. We are all Clan Colquhoun. We are all the Clans of Loch Lomond. So far, from BigY DNA and autosomal triangulations, we have determined that the histories of these Clans as they emigrated to the colonies were often inaccurate in their tracing.
