The goal of this regional DNA project is to create a database that reflects the genetic diversity of the Flemish population and their ancestors, and to help people with Flemish origins to better understand the historical background and context of their family history.

The project is also meant to become a central meeting point where Flemish people and foreigners with a historical, genetic connection to the Flemish region can find each other and exchange information about their origins.

Your (co)-administrators will also use this project’s forum (“Activity Feed”) to share with you exciting new discoveries that are relevant to the genetics of the Flemish population. Several studies have already been conducted, both on the modern-day population and on human remains discovered during archaeological excavations. More fascinating research is currently ongoing, which will undoubtedly further expand our knowledge about the ancient migrations in Flanders and its neighboring regions.
