About us
At this moment (October 2024) the project has 590 members. Nearly 300 of those have already researched their mitochondrial DNA (maternal line), and 426 have researched their Y-DNA (paternal line) at least up to 12 Y-STR markers. For 210 of our project members, BigY test results are available.
Y-haplogroup R1b-M269 is most common among the project members, representing 253 of the 426 samples that had at least 12 Y-STR markers tested (= 59.4%). Of those, 117 have already been shown to belong to the P312 subclade, and 43 to the U106 subclade. Another 78 samples belong to haplogroup I-M170 (= 18.3%), while smaller numbers belong to haplogroups G-M201, J-M172, and E-M96>M35.
These numbers are in line with the study by Larmuseau et al. (2014), which reported that about 61% of the overall male population in Flanders belongs to haplogroup R-M269, and about 13% to I-M170.
