About us
Johann Galenzoski (1814-1897) left Poland and settled in Radautz, Bukovina. He was married twice. His first union produced a daughter. His second union to Maria Schaefer (Schaffer) (1828-1919) resulted in the birth of four sons and two daughters. Three of the four male descendants and one sister came to Saskatchewan, Canada. The other brother and sister remained in the old country. The other brother came to Canada, did not like it and returned. However, his children did come to Canada and one to the US. Johann died in the old country and his wife Maria came to Edenwold, Saskatchewan, Canada. The Galenzoski family settled in or around Edenwold between 1890 and 1892.
There are estimated to be several hundred descendants living today across Canada and parts of the US. Many of the earliest family members changed their names during WW II to Gale or Galen. You can now find Galenzoski, Gale (Saskatchewan and British Columbia and Galen (Washington State).
Completion of the Y-DNA has resulted in the grouping I-BY3411 and is Suebic German in origin. DNA analysis has shown that our male ancestor remained in Germany or Poland, while a male relative crossed the Rhine and defeated the Romans in the Galacia region of Northern Spain. There are 2 or 3 step matches to living males today.
