Hatteras-Families has been established for people who descend from any known ancestors who lived on Hatteras or Ocracoke islands. The project is also open to those whose known ancestors lived elsewhere in the Outer Banks maritime regions or on the coastal sound-side margins, and are thought to be related to people from Hatteras or Ocracoke. The Family Finder test is recommended for participants. There are two companion projects to this one, Hatteras-Mothers and Hatteras-Fathers.
