About us

July 2007:
Please consider adding your DNA analysis to the National Geographic landmark study - "The Genographic Project". You can read about this on their web site at https://www3.nationalgeographic.com/genographic/
The analyis they provide from your ancestry is quite detailed and a great addition to your genealogy. I was very pleased with the results. Joe Luther - Kerrville, Texas.

SUCCESS STORIES!
Feb 2007:
Looks like two of our DNA group have matched up... and this makes them both descendants of Captain John Luther. Norris Budd Luther and Kem Luther have over a 90% chance that they share a Luther ancestor within the last dozen generations. Norris Budd Luther is listed on p. 1179 of the second edition of Luther Family in America.

This DNA project has enabled the Ebenezer and Aurilla Luther line to connect to the Captain John Luther line.

May 2007:
A Calvin Luther descendant (Michael Luther line) has verified his Isaac Luther line is an adopted line. He did not match the Michael Luther haplotype, but did match a WOLF descendant. Family history states Isaac was raised by Calvin Luther but was in fact a son of a local WOLF family and Calvin's second wife. The DNA results have confirmed this.

June 2007:
A Capt. John descendant through a female line (the female Luther had 2 children but did not marry; the children kept the Luther name) has confirmed his direct male lineage is through a WILCOX line.

August 2007:
A descendant of the Simeon/Gardner Luther line has tested and his results match the Capt. John Luther lines. Simeon/Gardner Luther descendants are now DNA proven descendants of the Capt. John line.

September 2007:
The Luther Surname DNA Project has just confirmed that Joe Edward Luther of North Carolina and Joseph Neal Luther of Texas have matching DNA. Although separated by generations and distance, an exact 12 marker match has been found between these two Luthers in the Family Tree DNA database. Joe Edward Luther of North Carolina and Joseph Neal Luther of Texas match in all 12 loci. Since they share share the same surname, this means that there is a 99% likelihood that they share a common ancestor in a genealogical time frame. They both are descended from Michael Luther of Strausburg. This means that most likely all the North Carolina and Tennessee Luthers have the same 12 marker match.

December 2007:
A HORTON matched 36/37 with the Capt. John Luther haplotype. His Wm. Horton was born c. 1810 in Rhode Island, and there were several Horton families living in close proximity to the many Luthers in the Bristol Co. area.

June 2008:
A descendant of Israel Luther of New Haven, Indiana has been tested and is a match to Capt. John Luther descendants. This now confirms Israel Luther as a descendant of Capt. John Luther.

September 2010
Recent deep clade testing of the Capt. John Luther line has resulted in a postive L161 test which places the lineage into the Isles B1 subclade. This was a very early group to inhabit the British Isles after the last glacier receded.

June 2016:
A descendant of Hezekiah Luther of Washington Co., NY matched the Capt. John Luther line.
