About us
We wish to gather information to form an accurate picture of the Makgill family and clan, its present-day connections and its ancient history. We also wish to study and understand ancient and modern migration patterns of McGill family members.
Y-DNA (STRs and SNPs)
A vision for this project is that someone named McGill, who doesn't know where in Ireland or Scotland their ancestors came, could take a Y Dna test and be told which village they came from. This will take some work.
Wish List:
1. Get more men Y-DNA tested who have documented family trees and geographic location to the 18th or early 19th century in Ireland and Scotland.
2. Have more men do Big Y SNP testing and uploaded to "The Big Tree"
3. Have reference kits for specific McGill settlements.
4. Have a profile of kits of famous McGills, such as James McGill who founded McGill University.
5. Determine whether the ancient McGills were really a branch of clan McDonald/McDonnell.
