About us
Group 1 is two kits with a common ancestor, James McGill, b.Scotland, d. 1834. The two kits in this group match the STR pattern of "Niall of the Nine Hostages". On the Big Tree (SNP testing), their haplotype is called "Northwest Irish".
Group 2 is several closely matching kits, with at least one traced to County Antrim.
Group 3 is several matching kits, with ancestors from the Glens area of Antim. On the big tree, haplotype is called "Scots Modal"
Kit 206503 is a nephew of kit 126052 and they have a Genetic Distance of 2, with 37 STRs compared. Their common ancestor is Francis McGill from Loughguile, Co. Antrim.
Group 4 is 2 matching kits that haven’t provide much information about their ancestors
Group 5 kits Conditionally match a kit or kits in Group 6.
Group 6 kits only tested at 12 sites and may match kits in group 5. Additional testing may be helpful.
Creating the subgroups: These are evaluated with a dna family grouping app found at http://www.ydnagroupingapp.com. Family tree data will also be considered.
Comment: It is ironic that group 1 comes from Scotland, but haplotypes suggest an ancient Irish origin. Group 3 is from Ireland, but their haplotype suggests an ancient Scottish origin.
