About us
The MEANA Surname Project is for all who want to know more about their ancestral origins and share common information. In the Iberian Peninsula, there are at least two geographical origins of the surname: one located in Asturias (Peón, Villaviciosa) and the other located in the Basc Country (Meana, Treviño). Whether they share a common genetic origin is currently unknown. Most likely not, as the surname seems to be linked to the local topography (for the Asturian lineages) and village (the small village of Meana, in the county of Treviño, currently part of Burgos, for the Basc lineages).
