The Phelps of northeastern North Carolina Project is a regional DNA Project (YDNA, mt-DNA and autosomal DNA results) focused on Phelps families with roots in Bertie, Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Dare, Gates, Hertford, Hyde, Northampton, Pasquotank, Perquimans, Tyrrell, and Washington counties. This is NOT a YDNA Surname Project. If you are a male Phelps with roots in northeastern North Carolina, and you are a member of the Phelps YDNA Surname Project, then you might find it helpful to also join this project. But, as this project is not run as a YDNA Surname Project, you will not get the same analysis and guidance as you will receive as a member of the Phelps YDNA Surname Project. If you are descended from Nicholas and Hannah Phelps (Hannah and her second husband, Henry Phelps moved from Salem, MA to the Perquimans area of North Carolina in the 1600s) you should contact the Administrator for further guidance as to which regional project might be best for your needs.
