The initial goal has been met. There is indeed a match (66 out of 67 markers) between the RUNCIMAN families of Wanton Walls, and one of the ones who emigrated to Michigan (William from Lauder). Would still love to hear from a descendant of the James RUNCIMAN of Michigan and anyone with a Richard RUNCIMAN in their ancestry.
Other RUNCIMAN families are also reaping the benefits from participating in genetic genealogy.
Not only has a long lost branch of RUNCIMANs in the States been re-connected with their far flung relations but we have also recently (Mar 2010) found that another branch is genetically related to the Earlston/Wanton Walls line.

The One Name Study is gradually teasing out more lines, representatives of which would be most welcome to join the project.
