About us

The Sandifer surname and its various spellings originated in England within a genealogical time frame, and some of these individuals migrated in the mid-1600s to 1700s to countries populated by the British, such as America/U.S., Barbados, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The difference in spellings such as Sandefer, Sandefur, Sanderfer, Sandifer, Sandifer, Sandifur, Sandiver and Sandover have caused confusion and challenges in searching early records. The opportunity to break through some of the barriers by using DNA has been our goal with this surname project as well as to share information and discussion to better understand our ancestors’ origins and their migrations. The DNA test results and sharing of information has already provided valuable data and clues in identifying the project members individual and collective genetic makeup, and family trees. Please click on the Background tab to understand who is able to join the Project and to read about some of the information already extracted from the DNA test results. Please join us in our journey to decipher our Y-DNA results to find where and when our families’ genealogies meet and who our common ancestor was in Virginia and England.
