About us
Treinfhir DNA Initiative
The Treinfhir DNA initiative began in 2019 with four males who completed Y-DNA tests. With the leadership of John Traynor, multiple branches of the Y-DNA tree have now been identified. We will learn more as more men complete a Big-Y DNA test. The initiative has expanded in 2022 to include also autosomal DNA tests and mitochondrial DNA tests, to help those connected to Treinfhirs learn more about our history. Both men and women testers can now contribute DNA test results to this initiative.
Treinfhirs now live all around the world. This project seeks to help us discover our connections to each other and to serve as a tool for personal genealogical research. This will result in deeper understanding of our shared history.
Our Irish families’ roots often carry nicknames to distinguish them from others. They came from particular townlands, which may be familiar to those living in Ireland, but less familiar to the descendants of emigrants. By sharing our own family’s ancestral trees, our oldest known ancestors’ locations and years of life, we can all discover more of our history and connections.
Your DNA test results are provided to you online under a secure user ID and Password.
