About us

I used to think that Butt was an uncommon name and that everyone named Butt was probably related to common ancestors. This project has helped to show that this is not the case. Instead, there are several groups sharing the same last name, but their own interesting stories. Some of our histories amy mirror the English immigrations in the book, Albion's Seed. For example, it is possible that the Robert Butt family of Norfolk, VA., came to the New World sometime around 1666. The William Butt family of Maryland immigrated from England circa 1740-1760. Others of us may have come from Northern Germany. Still others with this surname are Brahmins from the area of Northern India. The primary goal of this project is to help all of us find our lost families.
