About us
After years of research by numerous people, it appears as though there a several different lines of Dellinger families throughout the United States.
The three main branches are: There is a concentration of Dellinger's in North Carolina who appear to all be related to three brothers: Martin; Philipp and Valentin who immigrated to America in the mid 1700's. There is another concentration of Dellinger's in York Co., Pennsylvania who are descendants of Jacob Dellinger who immigrated to America in 1733. From previous research we have determined that Jacob and the three brothers (Martin, Philipp and Valentin) are first cousins and all immigrated from the small town of Oberacker which is in present day Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Jacob is a son of Hans Andreas Dellinger, who is the older brother of Hans Paul Dellinger, the father of the three brothers. The Oberacker Dellinger's appear to have migrated to Oberacker sometime after 2 Jan. 1659 and before 28 August 1659. Prior to moving to Oberacker, Hans Andreas' and Hans Paul's parents were married in Hochstadt, in present day Bayern (Bavaria), Germany, and previously had lived in Dillingen a.d. Donau in Bayern, Germany. There is another concentration of Dellinger's in western Virginia and they appear to be descendants of Johann Georg Dellinger who immigrated to America sometime prior to 1728. At this time it is unknown the location of where Johann Georg Dellinger immigrated from, but it is believed he came from Germany, Switzerland or the Strasbourg region of France.
DNA research has confirmed that William Dellinger who was born in North Carolina between 1750 and 1765 but later moved to Knox Co., Indiana shares a common male ancestor with the Oberacker Dellinger's, but at this time the precise connection hasn't been identified. Recent results confirm that "Indian Creek" George Dellinger who was born in 1756 in North Carolina also shares a common male ancestor with the Oberacker Dellinger's. However at this time where that connection is is unknown. "Leepers Creek" George Dellinger was also believed to be born in North Carolina, and died before Oct. 1803, while DNA results indicate the "Leepers Creek" George is related to the Oberacker Dellingers, what that connection is has yet to be determined.
The latest DNA results indicated that George Dellinger who married Conagonda is related to Heinrich Wilhelm Dellinger. George and Conagonda had a son, George, who was born 15 Nov. 1816 in Bavaria, Germany. The younger George came to America in 1845 and settled in Butler Co., Ohio. It is interesting to note that one of his sons, Henry, married Lettie Dellinger, who is a great granddaughter of the above mentioned William Dellinger who moved to Indiana from North Carolina. Heinrich Wilhelm Dellinger immigrated to America in 1728 and settled in Lehigh Co., Pennsylvania. Heinrich Wilhelm was married to a Anna Rosina (last name unknown). Many of Heinrich Wilhelm's descendants spelled their last name Dillinger.
Other lines of Dellingers There are numerous other branches that have not been positively connected with any of the above three lines. Some of these lines include: Enos C. Dellinger and his brother Benjamin Dellinger. Enos was born on 28 Feb. 1821 in Adams Co., Ohio. Benjamin was born about 1814. Other than his name and approximate birth date, nothing is known of Benjamin, however his brother moved from Adams Co., Ohio to Tipton Co., Indiana sometime between the 1860 census and when he bought land in Tipton Co. on 4 Feb. 1861. George Philip Dellinger, a son of Hans Jorg Dellinger, immigrated in 1738 and settled in Berks Co., Pennsylvania. George Philip Dellinger was born in Helmstadt, in what is in present day, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Helmstadt is only about 20 kilometers to the northeast of Oberacker, which makes me believe that these families are related. "Leepers Creek" Jacob Dellinger was born about 1765 in North Carolina, he is believed to be connected to the North Carolina Dellinger's. Moses Nathaniel Dellinger who was born 24 Sept. 1791 in Lincoln Co., North Carolina. Moses married Mary Magdaline Stroup. This family moved to Georgia sometime shortly before 1850. John Dellinger, who was born about 1812 in Pennsylvania and married Eliza Ann Rankin in 1842 in Clark Co., Ohio. John died sometime prior to 1860.
