About us

The Hutchins Project welcomes anyone interested in working together to find their common heritage through DNA testing and sharing of information. Variant spellings are welcome. If your Surname variant is missing and should be included, let me know. Participating is an opportunity to uncover information not provided in the paper records, which will help with your family history research. We will also discover which family trees are related. As the project progresses, the results for the various family trees will provide information about the evolution of the surname. To Participate meaningfully, in joining this project - You agree to review your "Account Information" settings. (Brief information is provided in the Welcome Email if you decide to join. or also see the Project FAQ href="https://www.familytreedna.com/groups/hutchins/faq - You're encouraged to upgrade the Y-DNA test (depending on test level) as & when you can. (While this is a MALE only test, both male & females can order & upgrade test levels.) - You're asked to share your Hutchins (or variant) related direct line ancestry (Name, Birth, Marriage & Death info, excluding living generations) Please see this link http://dgmweb.net/DNA/General/SubmitLine.html to see how to submit your family line. ========================== If you believe there is a Hutchins (or variant) in your direct line ancestry, although you have a different surname, you are also welcome to participate. If you're from a Hutchins (or variant) line that is not yet represented in the Surname Project, please consider submitting a Y-DNA test or encourage other male family members to submit a test (ideally through a different male line of the Distant Known Ancestor). At least 37 markers are recommended to provide enough specific data and can always be upgraded later with no need for a new sample. Already tested at FTDNA? Come join and participate in the Project. Were you tested at another company? Transfer your results to FTDNA to join this project. Other information held is that relevant to meeting the published goals of our Project. (https://www.familytreedna.com/groups/hutchins/about/goals) This is held indefinitely or until you request its deletion, which you can do at any time. However, we cannot retrieve data that has previously been posted in the public domain. If you have any queries or concerns regarding specific project content let me know. Some information you have shared within the project (Surname, Paternal Ancestor name, Haplogroup and Ancestral Pedigree*) may be subject to use by project members in personal blogs, Genealogical research, Family trees etc. (Please note it may also become accessible through search engines, such as Google Search) * Ancestral Pedigrees maybe published in the Results tab, though if you don't want it published let me know. Since members provide ancestor information based on their own research, some may be correct, and some incorrect. You will need to verify the accuracy of the pedigree information of the matching member. Neither the group admin nor FTDNA can vouch for the accuracy of the names, dates, or other pedigree information provided by members. ========================== Finally, Family History/Genealogy/Ancestry is meant to be FUN, lets keep it that way! The project is just getting started, and we expect to have many interesting discoveries. Please remember I'm a volunteer project admin with limited knowledge and expertise regarding DNA technology. So, due to the more complex nature of Family Finder & mtDNA tests, I'm unable to assist you regard these types tests. As the admin of numerous FTDNA surname projects, a few Guild surname studies, as well as doing my own family history, I ask you to please be patient if I don't respond straight away.
