Early Texans DNA Project

The Early Texans DNA Project consists of those whose ancestors were in Texas by 31 December 1900.

The Early Texans DNA Project is a sub-group of the TXStateGS Project. The Early Texans DNA Project incorporates data from tests taken at Family Tree DNA when the test-taker joins the TxStateGS Project. Data from other testing companies can be incorporated when it has been uploaded to Family Tree DNA. The project goals are to:
  • Study the DNA of descendants of early settlers to discover information that can contribute to Texas history including
  • Determine which admixtures are found in living Texans today
  • Link those admixture results to early colonies or settlements
  • Learn which segments of DNA are shared with other descendants of early settlers of Texas
  • Facilitate applicants for TxSGS certificate programs
    • DNA matches support claims of descent from a common ancestor and can provide clues as to where to locate documentary evidence
  • Many more exciting projects in the future
