About us

We now have 5 Wertheims from the Hessian towns of Angenrod, Hatzbach and Wehrda who have all tested at least 37 markers. Three have ancestors from Wehrda (J1c3) and the others are from Angenrod (T1), Hatzbach (J1).    At this point we have no DNA matches between any of the various towns in Hesse.

We also have the DNA from one offspring of the famous Rabbi Samson Wertheimer who was born in 1658 in Worms.  His DNA is a match with several other famous rabbinical lines, but he appears to be most closely related to the BACHARACH family that can trace their line back to the 14th Century.  He does have one WERTHEIMER match from Hungary, but we do not know how they are related.

Several of our members are related to each other and have Wertheimer ancestors from Hungary.  They have family trees that include 3 distinct Wertheim lineages.   The earliest does appear to be from a brother of Rabbi Samson Wertheimer.  Moses died in Eisenstadt, Austria and his  son Meir went to Prossnitz, Moravia.  Hopefully in the future we can find an offspring from Prossnitz!
