About us
We have four distinct groups in the O'Shea yDNA Project:
All of these groups have very different yDNA results from each other and are not connected for thousands of years. SNP testing, and more recently results from the Big Y-700 have confirmed this.
Many members have tested to 111 markers and a growing number have done the Big Y-700. A Y-37 test is not very useful in finding close connections but it does start you off and you can upgrade later to Y-111 and the Big Y-700.
Please look at our results webpage at Family Tree DNA. Also, our O'Shea blog is at http://oshea.wordpress.com

- We have established a main Kerry Group of yDNA results for O'Sheas.
- We have a group of O'Sheas with Tipperary/Kilkenny origins which has different yDNA results to the other groups. Some of these have a value of 12 at DYS392 which splits the group into two.
- We have an extended family of O'Sheas from the Macroom-Millstreet area of Co. Cork
- We have other set of results which define other sub-groups

The main Kerry Group is on the R-BY402 branch of the y-haplotree.
The Kilkenny Group is on the R-Z18128 branch of the y-haplotree.
The NW Co. Cork Group is on the R-BY17693 branch of the y-haplotree.
